Salutations! Bienvenue sur notre site MFL!

Welcome to MFL at Woodchurch!

“A different language is a different vision in life.”

Frederico Fellini

At Woodchurch we aim to inspire a love of learning languages.  By beginning to speak and understand other languages our children will also foster curiosity, knowledge and understanding of the global society in which they live.  Furthermore, we believe that learning a second language plays a valuable role in supporting the understanding of English.

Our second language in school is French although we do encourage all our children to become aware of other languages and cultures through games, songs and stories. We believe that this is a crucial foundation to learning any language later at KS2 and beyond.

Although Modern Foreign Languages are mandatory for KS2 only, EYFS and KS1 children are always excited to be introduced to new languages.  We do this by introducing them to songs and simple vocabulary in languages as and when they are relevant across the curriculum.

KS2 follow a the ‘Tout le Monde’ scheme of work.  As an active member of the Tenterden Rural Alliance (TRA) we have worked closely with Homewood School and Sixth Form College and our partner primary schools to develop a common KS2 language programme.  In this way we can be confident that when our children leave us to join their secondary school they will have a firm foundation to either continue French or, indeed, to begin a third language.

If you have any questions at all about the language curriculum at Woodchurch, please feel free to contact me by either meeting me on the school gate or by contacting me via the school office.

“One language sets you in a corridor for life.  Two languages open every door along the way.”
