A very big welcome to our children and their families, as well as other visitors to our page!
Our curriculum theme for term 4 is ‘Will you read me a story?’ Welcome to the magical world of fairy tales! Was the Big Bad Wolf really so bad? How many bowls of porridge did Goldilocks eat? Let’s find out more about our favourite stories, and discover some new ones. This term, we will read a range of traditional tales and use role play to bring some of the characters to life! We’ll play imaginatively with a model castle and small world characters. We’ll look at different character types, and decide whether our favourite characters are ‘goodies’ or ‘baddies’! Using different materials and shapes, we’ll build castles and bridges. We’ll read lots of stories and look at the ingredients that go into a terrific traditional tale. In Maths, we will be continuing to use our number skills for addition and finding number pairs which add up to 10. We will also be using our spatial awareness, using positional language and exploring 2d and 3d shapes.
Class learning outlines will be sent home regularly and these will outline what we have been learning about in school. We will not be setting formal homework, however we hope that the learning outlines will offer an insight into your child’s learning at school and offer opportunities for you to carry out activities with your child at home relating to those topics. In addition, reading daily at home and building words with the phonic sound cards we send home is an invaluable way to support your child’s reading and literacy skills. We value your continued support, working together to provide the best education for your child.
We hope that we can work together to make your child’s first year at school as valuable and inspiring as possible, creating firm foundations for them to build-upon as they move on through our school.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any queries, we can always arrange an appointment to meet and discuss any issues or concerns you may have. We look forward to an exciting and busy year in Hedgehog Class!
