Welcome to Rabbit Class!
Happy New Year! Term 3 already doesn’t time fly when you are having fun!
English Last Term the children worked super hard on making their own Non-Fiction books about animals. They researched different types of animals using iPads and books, this also included looking at extinct and endangered animals. The first week of term 3 we have been reading the story ‘Detective Dog’, unfortunately throughout the week Rabbit class books have gone missing, the children have been detectives in solving this crime by writing descriptive reports and persuasive letters to try and find out who stole the books.
The rest of term 3 our theme will be Pirates, we will be writing stories, songs/ poems, writing messages in a bottle and reading lots of funny and engaging pirate picture books. Our main focus this term will be sentence structure focusing on using connectives, capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and adjectives.
It is amazing to see the improvement in the children’s phonic ability since sending home the phonics folders. Throughout the school year we will be largely focusing on your child’s knowledge of phonics and continuing to build upon this in order to apply these skills to their reading. It is extremely beneficial if you can read with your child on a daily basis. The reading record must be signed and dated by an adult, otherwise it will not count towards their reading rocket challenge. Reading records and phonics folders need to be in school everyday. Each week we will continue to send home the sounds your child has been learning, please could you practice these with your child.
Term 3 our main focus is Addition and subtraction to 20 and Place value to 50. We will begin to use our number skills through problem solving and reasoning and diving deeper into our learning to explore more.
To help develop our repetition of number bonds to 10, it would be helpful if could practice these at home. The children have been learning a way to help them remember, ask them to show you!
Our focus this term is ‘Bright Lights, Big City’, we will be focusing on the United Kingdom including the four countries and capital cities. Our main city will be London, looking at the flag of England , famous landmarks, the history and the royal family.
In term 3 we will be identifying and naming everyday materials whilst carrying out our own experiments to test the properties of certain materials. Come back soon to find some exciting pictures of us experimenting.
The Big Question: What Good News did Jesus Bring?
We will be looking at bible stories to help us find out about the 12 disciples and the good news Jesus brought. Check out our R.E knowledge organiser on the right hand side of the page.
We really appreciate your ongoing support, please do not hesitate to ask if you have queries.
