Science plays a pivotal role in the world around us and it is vital to the world’s future prosperity. It is important that children learn the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. At Woodchurch CE Primary School, the children are taught to understand and question our world and beyond through the concepts of biology, chemistry and physics.
We teach a range of Science topics over the school year taken from the Kent Scheme of Work. The children are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in each topic. They are taught to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things behave and analyse causes. The lessons are often practical and children are encouraged to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.
Science has strong links with other areas of the curriculum and children are encouraged to further enhance their learning through Science. They will often carry out practical investigations and there is a need for them to use and apply skills from Maths and English.
ICT is embedded into our curriculum and as a school we ensure that the children are given the opportunity to use ICT resources to enhance and benefit their learning.
Children enjoy being taught Science at Woodchurch and they will often relate what they learn to real life. As the children develop a good understanding of the areas of Science, they also develop an understanding that will enable them to enhance the futures of themselves and those around them.
