Collective Worship

“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”Psalm 100:2

At Woodchurch, Collective Worship is a central and valued part of our daily school life—a time when our whole school community gathers together to honour God, reflect, and find stillness. It is the heartbeat of our day, offering a shared space to explore our spirituality, Christian values, and place in the world.

Worship helps us arrive in the right frame of mind, engage with Biblical teaching, and leave feeling refreshed and inspired.

Why Collective Worship Matters

Worship at Woodchurch is more than a routine—it’s a special time that brings our school together in unity and purpose. It provides an opportunity to:

  • Join together as a school community

  • Express praise and thanks to God

  • Reflect on the teachings of Jesus and the character of God

  • Affirm and explore Christian values

  • Celebrate the Christian calendar

  • Experience Anglican traditions and practices

  • Consider life’s big questions and respond to events around us

  • Encourage respect, stillness, and spiritual awareness

  • Share in one another’s joys and challenges

Inclusive, Invitational, Inspiring

Our worship is inclusive of all—those of Christian faith, of other faiths, or no faith. We welcome everyone with open hearts and without assumptions. We believe worship should be:

  • Inclusive – Accessible and meaningful for everyone, regardless of background or belief. We use language that is respectful of all.

  • Invitational – No one is required to participate in a particular way. Children and adults are free to pray, reflect, or simply be present with integrity.

  • Inspiring – Worship invites us to think deeply, ask big questions, and consider how we can make a difference in our world.

Worship in Practice: Our Weekly Pattern

Worship happens every day at Woodchurch, in line with statutory requirements, and is held either in school, in class, or at All Saints Church.

  • Monday – Whole school worship led by the Head of School, introducing the weekly theme using Bible stories, scripture, and prayer.

  • Tuesday – Whole school comes together for choral worship, celebrating the theme through joyful singing and reflection.

  • Wednesday – We welcome visitors for worship. This may include the Open the Book team, who share interactive Bible stories, or Rev. Sue at All Saints Church, who leads worship focusing on our school’s vision and values.

  • Thursday – Class-based worship led by teachers, allowing for more personal engagement with the theme, questions, and discussion.

  • Friday – A whole school celebration where we reflect on the week and share achievements. Families are warmly invited to join us.

Pupil Leadership in Worship

Our pupils play an active role in leading worship. Whether delivering Bible readings, sharing reflections, offering prayers, or leading parts of the gathering and sending, they treat these responsibilities with maturity and pride. It’s a joyful and meaningful part of school life.
