RE

At the heart of everything we do, including Religious Education (RE), are our core Christian values:

COMPASSION. HOPE. FORGIVENESS. THANKFULNESS. LOVE.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
— Matthew 5:14-16

We believe that RE plays a vital role in nurturing our pupils’ spiritual, moral, and cultural growth. By encouraging natural curiosity and open inquiry, RE helps children develop respect and understanding for different faiths and beliefs while strengthening their own sense of identity and belonging. It supports self-awareness and reflection by exploring the big questions that religions and worldviews address. This empowers pupils not only to appreciate diverse perspectives but also to form their own thoughtful responses.

As a Church of England Primary School, we take pride in our Christian ethos, and RE is a core part of our curriculum. We follow the Canterbury Diocesan scheme of work, aligned with the Kent Agreed Syllabus. While the majority of our learning focuses on Christianity, we aim for the impact of RE to extend beyond the classroom—helping our pupils embody our school values and truly SHINE in all areas of their lives.

Our classroom “working walls” showcase each unit’s learning journey, inviting pupils to engage with key questions, ideas, and beliefs. Students express their thoughts through post-it notes, thought bubbles, or illustrations, making learning interactive and meaningful.

Each unit encourages children to explore and deepen their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural understanding of the world. Pupils are supported to think critically, discuss thought-provoking topics, and develop speaking and listening skills—all within a respectful environment that honours diverse opinions, beliefs, and practices.

Parental Rights:
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education. We respect this choice and encourage parents to discuss any concerns or questions with the head teacher to understand the educational aims and content of our RE curriculum before making a decision.
