Attendance

At Woodchurch CEP School, we know there is a strong link between good attendance, punctuality, and high achievement. To help every child reach their full potential, they need to be in school regularly and on time.

Call by 9am on the first day your child is away — and every day they are absent.

✅ Quick Checklist for Parents

  • Attend every day – aim for 95%+ attendance.

  • Be on time – every minute counts.

  • Book appointments outside school hours whenever possible.

  • Take holidays in school holiday periods – term-time holidays cannot be authorised.

  • Contact us early if you need support with attendance or punctuality.

💡 There are only 190 school days each year. Missing just 1 day a fortnight = over 2 weeks of learning lost.
Let’s work together to give your child the very best start in life.

Why attendance matters

Children with 95% attendance or higher are more likely to:

  • Make better academic and social progress.

  • Find it easier to follow school routines.

  • Have a smoother transition to secondary school.

Every day in school counts — pupils learn something new every day, and missing lessons can quickly lead to gaps in learning.

If your child is absent

  • Please call our absence line on 01233 860232 by 9am on the first day of absence.

  • Call each day your child is off sick.

  • If we haven’t heard from you, we will contact you to make sure your child is safe.

How you can help

  • Make sure your child attends school every day and arrives on time.

  • Arrange medical and dental appointments outside of school hours where possible.

  • Book family holidays in school holiday periods — we are not able to authorise term-time holidays.

  • Contact us straight away if you are worried about your child’s attendance or punctuality — we are here to help.

Working together

There are only 190 school days in a year. Let’s make the most of each one so every child has the best possible start in life. Every day matters — and every minute counts.
