Sports Premium

At Woodchurch CE Primary, we believe every child should be inspired to enjoy sport and physical activity. Sport and exercise not only promote health and wellbeing but also build resilience, teamwork, and confidence – skills which help our children flourish both in and out of the classroom.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and subsequent international sporting events, highlighted the importance of inspiring the next generation. To build on this legacy, the Government introduced the Primary PE and Sports Premium, additional funding provided to schools to improve the quality of physical education, sport and physical activity for children.

Our Vision

In line with our Christian ethos and school values, we want every child at Woodchurch CE Primary to leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation to lead healthy, active lives. Our aim is that all children will take a lifelong love of sport, physical activity and wellbeing into their future.

The Purpose of Sports Premium Funding

The Government’s intention is that Sports Premium funding will create self-sustaining improvements in the quality of PE and sport in schools. The focus is on long-term impact that continues well beyond the years of funding.

Key Areas of Impact

At Woodchurch, we allocate our Sports Premium to ensure progress against the following five key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.

  2. Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school – using sport as a tool for whole school improvement.

  3. Increasing staff confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport.

  4. Broadening the experience of a range of sports and activities offered to pupils.

  5. Increasing participation in competitive sport – both within school and against other schools.

How We Use the Funding

Some of the ways we use Sports Premium funding include:

  • Providing specialist coaches to support staff in delivering high-quality PE lessons.

  • Offering a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities to encourage participation for all children.

  • Purchasing equipment and resources to enrich lessons and lunchtime activities.

  • Supporting children to take part in inter-school sports competitions and tournaments.

  • Organising festivals and events to promote inclusivity and ensure all pupils have access to sport.

  • Embedding active learning across the curriculum to reduce sedentary time and increase daily activity.

Measuring Impact

We carefully monitor the impact of Sports Premium spending to ensure it is making a real difference to children’s physical activity, health, and enjoyment of sport. Each year, we publish a Sports Premium Report which details:

  • How funding has been spent

  • The outcomes for pupils

  • The sustainability of improvements

Our reports are available to view on this page [link to reports].

Looking Ahead

We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of Sports Premium funding are long-lasting. By building staff expertise, investing in high-quality equipment and widening opportunities for participation, we aim to create a culture where physical activity and sport are valued by all and enjoyed by every child.
